Winter has finally arrived. I highly recommend signing up for a text alert from WSAZ or any other television or radio station that provides that service. This is the best way for you to be aware of any delays or closings.

I mentioned in last week’s letter that students go outside unless the temperature is below 32 degrees. In order to eliminate confusion we use the WSAZ app. The decision to go outside as much as possible is based on research. Studies show that students who started their day with physical activity were more successful than students who did not. I recently read an article in The Huffington Post about the 10 things that insanely healthy people do before 9:00 a.m. One thing was exercise. We have extra coats, hats, and gloves if students need them. When I worked in Ohio we had to go outsides unless the temperature was below 20 degrees. Physicians I have consulted with about this agree that this is a good practice.

Boosters met last Monday and discussed spring carnival and 5K. We will be sending more information home about these events and will be asking for lots of help. We do very little fundraising here so the few things that we do are very important. The extra money raised by boosters helps purchase computer programs for students to use for remediation and enrichment. It is also used to help out with supplies for special occasions.

We also need help with popcorn popping on Fridays. Each class receives money for special activities, including field trips, so that students do not have to bring money in. The money raised stays with each class until they complete the 5th grade. Please help if you can.

Enjoy your three day weekend!!!
